Week 311

The big thing this week was the start of a new sprint on Free Birds. Niels and Tim joined us again for copy and art respectively, while Alper donned his developer hat, and I switched between my producer, agile coach, and designer roles. There’s a lot to do, as usual, but we’ve made good progress. […]

Week 309–310

It’s been a while since we fell off the weeknotes horse, but here we are. So let’s get down to it. In week 309 we reviewed Q2’s OKRs, and discussed our plans for the future. Let me tell you, it isn’t easy being a boutique playful design agency. But we’re soldiering on. The big project still on […]

Week 308

Lots of work on KOKORO this week. We finished the first prototype and playtested it with a bunch of teenagers. Received plenty of helpful feedback. We need to do a proper evaluation but my first impression is that our decision to structure the product around a conversational UI has been validated. For the remaining projects […]

Week 304

Yes, we work hard. But we manage to enjoy ourselves as well, as you can tell from the nice photo above taken by Tim during a rare occasion: All of project SHACHI’s team physically copresent in our Utrecht studio. Alper was in NL to run project KOKORO’s first workshop together with me. We spent a […]

Week 302

I returned from a long holiday in South-East Asia to find the business humming along nicely thanks to Alper’s capable stewardship. I’ve mentioned this before, but the fact that all of our work lives in Asana makes it super easy for me to catch up on things and pick up where I left off. I took […]

Week 301

Last week I processed the last of the media attention for Bycatch. We now have a fairly handsome list of praise in various languages at the top of the page (check it out!) with Kotaku, Killscreen, Deutschlandradio Kultur, WIRED, NOS and Bright. We might add one or two more to that but with that it’s […]

Week 299

Last week I was in the Netherlands to participate in a pitch meeting in Tilburg. The rest of the week I worked at the Utrecht studio in Kars’s absence, took some meetings and coincidentally caught up with a bunch of friends. I went over to SodaProducties to talk over a bit of invention we will […]

Week 297

This was a relatively quiet week. We made plans for the next sprint on SHACHI. Alper continued his search for a Unity developer to support us on the same project. (Suggestions and applications welcome.) I did some last-minute design work on BANKEN. Alper started preparing for his talk at Republica next Tuesday. I went over […]

Week 296

I was in the Netherlands last week to finish the first beta of SHACHI. The three of us (Kars, myself and Hedgefield) went to the Airborne Museum in Oosterbeek on Wednesday to playtest it. Playtests are absolutely essential to validate both for us and our clients that what we are doing is going in the […]

Week 295

The vast majority of our time this week was spent on SHACHI. I drafted copy, Alper did software development and Tim worked on artwork. Next week we’ll playtest the first beta. I what time remained, I did the odd bits of design direction on BANKEN, which has transitioned into production. As a result my role has […]
